BENIN CITY, Jun. 2, 2001 (AMP) — Mali 2002 (Qualifiers) : Nigeria defeated Madagascar by a score of 1-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.

The result put the Nigerians top of Group 1 with 11 points. Madagascar is second with 5 points. In their last game, Nigeria will meet Namibia on June 16, while Madagascar will face Zambia.
