AFCON 2017 Qualifiers : Mauritania beats South Africa 3-1
NOUAKCHOTT, Sep. 5, 2015 (AMP) — Gabon 2017 (Qualifiers) : Mauritania defeated South Africa by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday afternoon at the Nouakchott Olympic Stadium.
Mauritania dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by Abeid in the 5th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Mauritanians further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Bagili '77 and Moulaye Ahmed '85).
The result put the Mauritanians top of Group M with 3 points. South Africa is bottom with one point. In their next game, Mauritania will meet third-placed Gambia at the Nouakchott Olympic Stadium on March 25, while South Africa will face Cameroon.
