AFCON 2017 Qualifiers : Mauritania defeats Gambia 2-1
NOUAKCHOTT, Mar. 25, 2016 (AMP) — Gabon 2017 (Qualifiers) : Mauritania defeated Gambia by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations on Friday afternoon at the Nouakchott Olympic Stadium.
Moulaye Ahmed scored dual goals
Mauritania dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by Moulaye Ahmed in the 36th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Mauritanians further widened their lead in the second period with another goal by Moulaye Ahmed in stoppage time.
The result put the Mauritanians top of Group M with 6 points. Gambia is bottom with one point. In their next game, Mauritania will meet third-placed Gambia at the Nouakchott Olympic Stadium on March 29, while Gambia will face Mauritania.
