AFCON 2019 Qualifiers : Gambia beats Benin 3-1

BAKAU, Nov. 17, 2018 (AMP) — Cameroon 2019 (Qualifiers) : Gambia defeated Benin by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 0-1), in a qualifying game for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday afternoon at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

Benin had started off well by taking the lead in the 34th minute with a goal by French forward Steve Mounié. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Gambians nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring three times in the second period (Jallow '70, B. Jobe '78 and A. Jallow '90).

The result put the Beninese second in Group D with 7 points. Gambia is third with 5 points. In their last game, Benin will meet Togo at the Independence Stadium on March 24, while Gambia will face Algeria.
