AFCON 2019 Qualifiers : Mauritania beats Botswana 2-1
NOUAKCHOTT, Nov. 18, 2018 (AMP) — Cameroon 2019 (Qualifiers) : Mauritania defeated Botswana by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a qualifying game for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday afternoon at the Cheikha Ould Boïdiya Stadium in Nouakchott.
Diakité scored dual goals
Kobe opened the score in the 4th minute, before seeing Mauritania catch up in the 20th minute thanks to Diakité. 1-1 at half time. The Mauritanians eventually won the game in the second period with with another goal by Diakité with just 6 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Mauritanians top of Group I with 12 points. Botswana is bottom with one point. In their last game, Mauritania will meet third-placed Burkina Faso at the Cheikha Ould Boïdiya Stadium on March 22, while Botswana will face Angola.
