Champions League 2016-17 : Napoli defeats Benfica 4-2

NAPLES, Sep. 28, 2016 (AMP) — Champions League 2016-17 : Napoli defeated Benfica by a score of 4-2 (halftime: 1-0), in a Champions League group stage game on Wednesday night at the San Paolo Stadium in Naples.

Dries Mertens scored dual goals

Napoli dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by Slovak midfielder Marek Hamsik in the 20th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Partenopei further widened their lead in the second period by scoring three times (Mertens '51, '58 and Milik Arkadiusz '54/penalty).

The result put Napoli top of Group B with 6 points. Benfica is bottom with one point. In their next game, Napoli will meet second-placed Besiktas at the San Paolo Stadium on October 19, while Benfica will face Dynamo Kiev.
