LISBON, Nov. 22, 2016 (AMP) — Champions League 2016-17 : Real Madrid defeated Sporting Lisbon by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a Champions League group stage game on Tuesday night at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon.
Real Madrid dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by French defender Raphaël Varane in the 29th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, Los Blancos further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Benzema with just 3 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put Real Madrid second in Group F with 11 points. Sporting is third with 3 points. In their last game, Real Madrid will meet group leaders Borussia Dortmund at the Estádio José Alvalade on December 7, while Sporting Lisbon will face Legia Warsaw.
