BASEL, Sep. 27, 2017 (AMP) — Champions League 2017-18 : Basel defeated Benfica by a big score of 5-0 (halftime: 2-0), in a Champions League group stage game on Wednesday night at St. Jakob-Park in Basel.

Oberlin scored dual goals

Basel dominated the first half thanks to goals from Lang ('2) and Oberlin ('20). Leading 2-0 at the break, FCB further widened their lead in the second period by scoring three times (Van Wolfswinkel '60/penalty, Oberlin '69 and Riveros '76).

The result put Basel second in Group A with 3 points. Benfica is bottom with no points. In their next game, Basel will meet third-placed CSKA Moscow at St. Jakob-Park on October 18, while Benfica will face Manchester United.
