Confederations Cup 2013 : Italy beats Uruguay in shoot out to claim Confederations Cup third place
SALVADOR, Jun. 30, 2013 (AMP) — Brazil 2013 : Italy secured the consolation of third place at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup after defeating Uruguay 3-2 on penalties (after a 2-2 draw) on Sunday afternoon at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador.
The score was still 2-2 at the end of the regulation game time and overtime, after goals from Davide Astori ('24) and Alessandro Diamanti ('73) for Italy and Edinson Cavani ('58, '78) for Uruguay. The Italians finally emerged the victors in the penalty shootout session by winning 3-2.
