France beats Italy 2-1 in extra time to win 2000 Euro

ROTTERDAM, Jul. 2, 2000 (AMP) — Belgium Netherland 2000 : France claimed a second UEFA Euro crown courtesy of a 2-1 extra time victory over Italy (following a 1-1 draw in regulation) in the final on Sunday night at the De Kuip in Rotterdam.

The score was still 1-0 for Italy at the end of overtime, when an unexpected goal from Wiltord in the 93rd minute allowed France to equalize and just squeeze through to overtime. In the 103rd minute, it was ultimately the French striker David Trézéguet who brought Les Bleus to victory by scoring the winning goal.
