Poland beats Switzerland in shoot out to reach Euro quarterfinals
SAINT-ÉTIENNE, Jun. 25, 2016 (AMP) — France 2016 : Poland qualified to the quarter-finals of the 2016 UEFA Euro after defeating Switzerland 5-4 on penalties (after a 1-1 draw) on Saturday afternoon at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Saint-Étienne.
The score was still 1-1 at the end of the regulation game time and overtime, after goals from Jakub Błaszczykowski ('39) for Poland and Xherdan Shaqiri ('82) for Switzerland. The Poles finally emerged the victors in the penalty shootout session by winning 5-4.
