RIGA, Oct. 10, 2014 (AMP) — France 2016 (Qualifiers) : Iceland defeated Latvia by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a qualifying game for the 2016 UEFA European Championship on Friday night at the Skonto Stadium in Riga.
Both teams held off against each other during the first 45 minutes of the game. 0-0 at half time. Everything was settled in the second period with goals by Sigurðsson ('66), Gunnarsson ('77) and Gíslason ('90).
The result put the Icelander top of Group A with 6 points. Latvia is 5th with one point. In their next game, Iceland will meet third-placed the Netherlands at the Skonto Stadium on October 13, while Latvia will face Turkey.
