Euro 2016 Qualifiers : Northern Ireland beats Faroe islands 3-1
TóRSHAVN, Sep. 4, 2015 (AMP) — France 2016 (Qualifiers) : Northern Ireland defeated the Faroe islands by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a qualifying game for the 2016 UEFA European Championship on Friday night at the Torsvollur Stadium in Tórshavn.
Gareth McAuley scored dual goals
Irish defender Gareth McAuley opened the score in the 12th minute, before seeing the Faroe islands catch up in the 36th minute thanks to Edmundsson. 1-1 at half time. The Irishs eventually won the game in the second period with two more goals by McAuley ('71) and Lafferty ('75).
The result put the Irish top of Group F with 16 points. The Faroe islands is 5th with 6 points. In their next game, Northern Ireland will meet third-placed Hungary at the Torsvollur Stadium on September 7, while the Faroe islands will face Finland.
