PALERMO, Oct. 10, 2014 (AMP) — France 2016 (Qualifiers) : Italy defeated Azerbaijan by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a qualifying game for the 2016 UEFA European Championship on Friday night at the Stadio Renzo Barbera in Palermo.
Giorgio Chiellini scored dual goals
Italy dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by defender Giorgio Chiellini in the 44th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Italians further widened their lead in the second period with another goal by Chiellini with just 8 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Italians top of Group H with 6 points. Azerbaijan is 5th with no points. In their next game, Italy will meet Malta at the Stadio Renzo Barbera on October 13, while Azerbaijan will face Croatia.
