Euro 2016 Qualifiers : Malta draw 2-2 with Azerbaijan
TA' QALI, Sep. 6, 2015 (AMP) — France 2016 (Qualifiers) : Malta tied 2-2 with Azerbaijan (halftime: 0-1), in a qualifying game for the 2016 UEFA European Championship on Sunday night at the Ta' Qali National Stadium.
The Azerbaijanis started off well by taking the lead thanks to Amirguliyev in the 36th minute. However, even though they were leading 1-0 at half time, and despite Amirguliyev goal ('80) in the second period, they could not prevent a comeback by Malta with goals by Mifsud ('55) and Effiong ('71).
The result put the Azerbaijani 5th in Group H with 6 points. Malta is bottom with 2 points. In their next game, Azerbaijan will meet third-placed Italy at the Ta' Qali National Stadium on October 10, while Malta will face Norway.
