Europa League 2016-17 : Schalke 04 beats Red Bull Salzburg 3-1

GELSENKIRCHEN, Sep. 29, 2016 (AMP) — Europa League 2016-17 : Schalke 04 defeated Red Bull Salzburg by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 1-0), in a Europa League group stage game on Thursday night at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

Schalke 04 dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by midfielder Leon Goretzka in the 15th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Royal Blues further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Ćaleta-Car '47/own and Höwedes '58).

The result put Schalke 04 second in Group I with 6 points. Red Bull Salzburg is third with no points. In their next game, Schalke 04 will meet group leaders Krasnodar at the Veltins-Arena on October 20, while Red Bull Salzburg will face Nice.
