Mexico beats Costa Rica in extra time to advance to Gold Cup semifinals
EAST RUTHERFORD, Jul. 19, 2015 (AMP) — USA 2015 : Mexico reached the semifinals of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup courtesy of a 1-0 extra time victory over Costa Rica (following a 0-0 draw in regulation) on Sunday night at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
The score was still nil-all after the 90 minutes of regulation time and both teams had to wait for overtime to settle the issue. In the 124th minute, it was ultimately the Mexican defender Andrés Guardado who brought Mexico to victory by scoring on penalty the winning goal.
