PAPEETE, Oct. 27, 1996 (AMP) — 1996 : Australia defeated Tahiti by a big score of 6-0 (halftime: 5-0), in a semifinals on Sunday at the Stade Pater in Papeete.
Kris Trajanovski served up another goal feast
Australia dominated the first half thanks to goals from Ernie Tapai ('5), Paul Trimboli ('20) and Kris Trajanovski ('25, '28, '44). Leading 5-0 at the break, the Australians further widened their lead in the second period with another goal by Kris Trajanovski with one minute left in regular time.
The second leg between Tahiti and Australia will be played on Friday November 1, 1996 in Canberra.
