OFC Nations Cup 2000 : Solomon Islands beats Vanuatu 2-1 to claim OFC Nations Cup third place
PAPEETE, Jun. 28, 2000 (AMP) — Tahiti 2000 : The Solomon Islands secured the consolation of third place at the 2000 OFC Nations Cup with a 2-1 win against Vanuatu (halftime: 0-1) on Wednesday at the Stade Pater in Papeete.
Vanuatu had started off well by taking the lead in the 35th minute with a goal by Lexa Bibi. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Solomon Islanders nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring twice in the second period (Commins Menapi '53 and Gideon Omokirio '69 on penalty).
