ADELAIDE, Jun. 2, 2004 (AMP) — Australia 2004 : Vanuatu defeated New Zealand by a score of 4-2 (halftime: 1-0), in a OFC Nations Cup group stage game (Final Tournament) on Wednesday at the Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide.
Vanuatu dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by Chilia in the 37th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Vanuatuans further widened their lead in the second period by scoring three times (Bibi '64, Maleb '72 and Qorig '88).
The result put the New Zealander fourth in the group with 3 points. Vanuatu is 5th with 3 points. In their next game, New Zealand will meet Tahiti at the Hindmarsh Stadium on June 4, while Vanuatu will face Australia.
