ADELAIDE, Jun. 4, 2004 (AMP) — Australia 2004 : The Solomon Islands defeated the Fiji by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in a OFC Nations Cup group stage game (Final Tournament) on Friday at the Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide.
Kakai opened the score in the 16th minute, before seeing the Fiji catch up in the 21st minute thanks to Toma. 1-1 at half time. The Solomon Islanders eventually won the game in the second period with with a goal by Houkarawa with just 8 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the Solomon Islander second in the group with 9 points. The Fiji is fourth with 4 points. In their last game, the Solomon Islands will meet group leaders Australia at the Hindmarsh Stadium on June 6, while the Fiji will face New Zealand.
