OFC Nations Cup 2008 : New Zealand defeats Fiji 2-0
LAUTOKA, Oct. 17, 2007 (AMP) — 2008 : New Zealand defeated the Fiji by a score of 2-0 (halftime: 1-0), in a OFC Nations Cup final round game (Final Tournament) on Wednesday afternoon at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
New Zealand dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by defender Ivan Vicelich in the 37th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the New Zealanders further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Smeltz with just 4 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the New Zealander top of the group with 3 points. In their next game, New Zealand will meet Vanuatu at Churchill Park on November 17, while the Fiji will face New Caledonia.
