OFC Nations Cup 2008 : New Zealand defeats Vanuatu 4-1
WELLINGTON, Nov. 21, 2007 (AMP) — 2008 : New Zealand defeated Vanuatu by a score of 4-1 (halftime: 3-0), in a OFC Nations Cup final round game (Final Tournament) on Wednesday night at the Wellington Regional Stadium.
David Mulligan and Shane Smeltz scored dual goals
New Zealand dominated the first half thanks to goals from Mulligan ('17) and Smeltz ('29, '34). Leading 3-0 at the break, the New Zealanders further widened their lead in the second period with another goal by Mulligan with just 9 minutes remaining in regulation time.
The result put the New Zealander top of the group with 9 points. Vanuatu is bottom with no points. In their next game, New Zealand will meet second-placed New Caledonia at the Wellington Regional Stadium on September 6, while Vanuatu will face New Caledonia.
