AUCKLAND, Sep. 10, 2008 (AMP) — 2008 : New Zealand defeated New Caledonia by a score of 3-0 (halftime: 0-0), in a OFC Nations Cup final round game (Final Tournament) on Wednesday night at the North Harbour Stadium in Auckland.
Shane Smeltz scored dual goals
Both teams held off against each other during the first 45 minutes of the game. 0-0 at half time. Everything was decided in the second period with goals by Smeltz ('49, '76) and Christie ('69).
New Caledonia finished second in the 2008 OFC Nations Cup.The result put the New Zealander top of the group with 15 points. New Caledonia is second with 8 points. In their last game, New Zealand will meet third-placed the Fiji at the North Harbour Stadium on November 19.
