Iraq beats Iran in shoot out to advance to Asian Cup semifinals
CANBERRA, Jan. 23, 2015 (AMP) — Australia 2015 : Iraq reached the semifinals of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup after defeating Iran 7-6 on penalties (after a 3-3 draw) on Friday afternoon at the Canberra Stadium.
The score was still 3-3 at the end of the regulation game time and overtime, after goals from Azmoun ('24), Pouraliganji ('103) and Reza Ghoochannejhad ('118) for Iran and Yasin ('56), Mahmoud ('93) and Ismail ('116 on penalty) for Iraq. The Iraqis finally emerged the victors in the penalty shootout session by winning 7-6.
