UAE beats Japan in shoot out to advance to Asian Cup semifinals
SYDNEY, Jan. 23, 2015 (AMP) — Australia 2015 : The United Arab Emirates reached the semifinals of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup after defeating Japan 5-4 on penalties (after a 1-1 draw) on Friday night at the Stadium Australia in Sydney.
The score was still 1-1 at the end of the regulation game time and overtime, after goals from Ali Mabkhout ('7) for the United Arab Emirates and Shibasaki ('81) for Japan. The Emiratis finally emerged the victors in the penalty shootout session by winning 5-4.
