BERN, Aug. 16, 2016 (AMP) — Champions League 2016-17 (Qualifiers) : Mönchengladbach defeated Young Boys by a score of 3-1 (halftime: 1-0), in the first leg of a Champions League qualifier tie on Tuesday night at the Stade de Suisse in Bern.

Mönchengladbach dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by Brazilian midfielder Raffael Caetano in the 11th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Foals further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Hahn '67 and Rochat Alain '69/own).

The second leg between Young Boys and Mönchengladbach will be played on Wednesday August 24, 2016 (kick-off: 20:45) in Mönchengladbach.
