Champions League 2016-17 Qualifiers : Monaco beats Villarreal 2-1

VILLARREAL, Aug. 17, 2016 (AMP) — Champions League 2016-17 (Qualifiers) : Monaco defeated Villarreal by a score of 2-1 (halftime: 1-1), in the first leg of a Champions League qualifier tie on Wednesday night at the El Madrigal stadium in Villarreal.

Monégasque defender Fabinho opened the score in the 3rd minute on penalty, before seeing Villarreal catch up in the 36th minute thanks to Pato. 1-1 at half time. The Monacos eventually won the game in the second period with with a goal by Silva in the 72nd minute.

The second leg between Villarreal and Monaco will be played on Tuesday August 23, 2016 (kick-off: 20:45) in Monaco.
