Uruguay beats Argentina in shoot out to advance to Copa América semifinals
SANTA FE, Jul. 16, 2011 (AMP) — Argentina 2011 : Uruguay reached the semifinals of the 2011 Copa América after defeating Argentina 5-4 on penalties (after a 1-1 draw) on Saturday night at the Estadio Brigadier General E. López in Santa Fe.
The score was still 1-1 at the end of the regulation game time and overtime, after goals from Diego Pérez ('5) for Uruguay and Gonzalo Higuaín ('17) for Argentina. The Uruguayans finally emerged the victors in the penalty shootout session by winning 5-4.
