Venezuela beats Chile to advance to Copa América semifinals
SAN JUAN, Jul. 17, 2011 (AMP) — Argentina 2011 : Venezuela reached the semifinals of the 2011 Copa América with a 2-1 win against Chile (halftime: 1-0) on Sunday night at the Estadio del Bicentenario in San Juan.
Venezuela dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by defender Oswaldo Vizcarrondo in the 34th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Venezuelans further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Cichero with just 10 minutes remaining in regulation time.
