Argentina beats USA to reach World Cup final
MONTEVIDEO, Jul. 26, 1930 (AMP) — Uruguay 1930 : Argentina reached the FIFA World Cup final for the very first time in their history with a 6-1 win against the United States (halftime: 1-0) on Saturday afternoon at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.
Guillermo Stábile and Carlos Peucelle scored dual goals
Argentina dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by Italian midfielder Luis Monti in the 20th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Argentines further widened their lead in the second period by scoring five times (Scopelli '56, Stábile '69, '87 and Peucelle '80, '85).
