Uruguay beats Argentina 4-2 to win 1930 World Cup
MONTEVIDEO, Jul. 30, 1930 (AMP) — Uruguay 1930 : Uruguay claimed the FIFA World Cup crown with a 4-2 win against Argentina (halftime: 1-2) in the final on Wednesday afternoon at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.
Argentina had started off well by taking the lead thanks to goals by Peucelle ('20) and Stábile ('37), while Uruguay only scored once Dorado ('12). Trailing 2-1 at half time, the Uruguayans nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring three times in the second period (Cea '57, Iriarte '68 and Castro '89).
