Czechoslovakia beats Switzerland to advance to World Cup semifinals
TURIN, May. 31, 1934 (AMP) — Italy 1934 : Czechoslovakia reached the semifinals of the 1934 FIFA World Cup with a 3-2 win against Switzerland (halftime: 1-1) on Thursday afternoon at the Stadio Benito Mussolini in Turin.
Swiss forward Leopold Kielholz opened the score in the 18th minute, before seeing Czechoslovakia catch up in the 24th minute thanks to Frantisek Svoboda. 1-1 at half time. The Czechoslovaks eventually won the game in the second period with two more goals by Sobotka ('49) and Nejedlý ('82).
