Italy beats France to advance to World Cup semifinals
PARIS, Jun. 12, 1938 (AMP) — France 1938 : Italy reached the semifinals of the 1938 FIFA World Cup with a 3-1 win against France (halftime: 1-1) on Sunday afternoon at the Stade olympique Yves-du-Manoir in Paris.
Silvio Piola scored dual goals
Italian forward Gino Colaussi opened the score in the 9th minute, before seeing France catch up in the 10th minute thanks to Oscar Heisserer. 1-1 at half time. The Italians eventually won the game in the second period with two more goals by Piola ('51, '72).
