Hungary beats Switzerland to advance to World Cup semifinals
LILLE, Jun. 12, 1938 (AMP) — France 1938 : Hungary reached the semifinals of the 1938 FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 win against Switzerland (halftime: 1-0) on Sunday afternoon at the Victor Boucquey Stadium in Lille.
Hungary dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward György Sárosi in the 40th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Hungarians further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Zsengellér with one minute left in regular time.
