Brazil beats Czechoslovakia to advance to World Cup semifinals
BORDEAUX, Jun. 14, 1938 (AMP) — France 1938 : Brazil reached the semifinals of the 1938 FIFA World Cup with a 2-1 win against Czechoslovakia (halftime: 0-1) on Tuesday night at the Stade Chaban Delmas in Bordeaux.
Czechoslovakia had started off well by taking the lead in the 25th minute with a goal by midfielder Vlastimil Kopecký. Trailing 1-0 at half time, the Brazilians nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring twice in the second period (Leônidas '57 and Roberto '62).
