Hungary beats Sweden to reach World Cup final
PARIS, Jun. 16, 1938 (AMP) — France 1938 : Hungary reached the FIFA World Cup final for the very first time in their history with a 5-1 win against Sweden (halftime: 3-1) on Thursday night at the Parc des Princes in Paris.
Gyula Zsengellér scored dual goals
Sweden opened the score in the score in the 1st minute thanks to Arne Nyberg, before Hungary regained the advantage with Jacobsson ('19 own), Titkos ('37) and Zsengellér ('39). Leading 3-1 at the break, the Hungarians further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Sárosi '65 and Zsengellér '85).
