Brazil beats Poland in extra time to reach World Cup quarterfinals
STRASBOURG, Jun. 5, 1938 (AMP) — France 1938 : Brazil qualified to the quarter-finals of the 1938 FIFA World Cup courtesy of a 6-5 extra time victory over Poland (following a 4-4 draw in regulation) on Sunday afternoon at the Stade de la Meinau in Strasbourg.
Leônidas scored tripple goals
The score was still 4-3 for Brazil a minute from the end of regulation time, when an unexpected goal from Wilimowski allowed Poland to equalize and just squeeze through to overtime. The Brazilians finally broke through with goals from Leônidas ('93, '104), while Wilimowski ('118) scored for Poland.
