Switzerland beats Germany to reach World Cup quarterfinals
PARIS, Jun. 9, 1938 (AMP) — France 1938 : Switzerland qualified to the quarter-finals of the 1938 FIFA World Cup with a 4-2 win against Germany (halftime: 1-2) on Thursday night at the Parc des Princes in Paris.
André Abegglen scored dual goals
Germany had started off well by taking the lead thanks to goals by Hahnemann ('8) and Lörtscher ('22 own), while Switzerland only scored once Walaschek ('42). Trailing 2-1 at half time, the Swisss nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring three times in the second period (Bickel '64 and Abegglen '75, '78).
