Austria beats Switzerland to advance to World Cup semifinals
LAUSANNE, Jun. 26, 1954 (AMP) — Switzerland 54 : Austria reached the semifinals of the 1954 FIFA World Cup with a 7-5 win against Switzerland (halftime: 5-4) on Saturday afternoon at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise in Lausanne.
Theodor Wagner scored tripple goals
Switzerland opened the score in the score in the 16th minute thanks to Robert Ballaman, before Austria regained the advantage with Wagner ('25, '27), Körner ('26, '34) and Ocwirk ('32). Leading 5-4 at the break, the Austrians further widened their lead in the second period by scoring twice (Wagner '53 and Probst '76).
