Germany beats Yugoslavia to advance to World Cup semifinals
GENEVA, Jun. 27, 1954 (AMP) — Switzerland 54 : Germany reached the semifinals of the 1954 FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 win against Yugoslavia (halftime: 1-0) on Sunday afternoon at the Charmilles Stadium in Geneva.
Germany dominated the first half as a result of the unfortunate own goal scored by defender Ivan Horvat in the 9th minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Germans further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Rahn with just 5 minutes remaining in regulation time.
