Hungary beats Uruguay in extra time to reach World Cup final
LAUSANNE, Jun. 30, 1954 (AMP) — Switzerland 54 : Hungary reached the FIFA World Cup final for the second time in their history courtesy of a 4-2 extra time victory over Uruguay (following a 2-2 draw in regulation) on Wednesday night at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise in Lausanne.
Sándor Kocsis scored dual goals
The score was still 2-1 for Hungary four minutes from the end of regulation time, when an unexpected goal from Hohberg allowed Uruguay to equalize and just squeeze through to overtime. The Hungarians finally broke through with goals from Kocsis ('111, '116).
