Germany beats Turkey to reach World Cup quarterfinals
ZURICH, Jun. 23, 1954 (AMP) — Switzerland 54 : Germany qualified to the quarter-finals of the 1954 FIFA World Cup with a 7-2 win against Turkey (halftime: 3-1) on Wednesday night at the Hardturm in Zurich.
Max Morlock scored tripple goals
Germany dominated the first half thanks to goals from Walter ('7), Schäfer ('12) and Morlock ('30). Leading 3-1 at the break, the Germans further widened their lead in the second period by scoring four times (Morlock '60, '77, Walter '62 and Schäfer '79).
