Sweden beats Germany to reach World Cup final
GOTHENBURG, Jun. 24, 1958 (AMP) — Sweden 58 : Sweden reached the FIFA World Cup final for the very first time in their history with a 3-1 win against Germany (halftime: 1-1) on Tuesday night at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg.
German forward Hans Schäfer opened the score in the 24th minute, before seeing Sweden catch up in the 32nd minute thanks to Lennart Skoglund. 1-1 at half time. The Swedishs eventually won the game in the second period with two more goals by Gren ('81) and Hamrin ('88).
