Brazil beats England to advance to World Cup semifinals
VIñA DEL MAR, Jun. 10, 1962 (AMP) — Chile 62 : Brazil reached the semifinals of the 1962 FIFA World Cup with a 3-1 win against England (halftime: 1-1) on Sunday afternoon at the Sausalito Stadium in Viña del Mar.
Garrincha scored dual goals
Brazilian forward Garrincha opened the score in the 31st minute, before seeing England catch up in the 38th minute thanks to Gerry Hitchens. 1-1 at half time. The Brazilians eventually won the game in the second period with two more goals by Vavá ('53) and Garrincha ('59).
