Portugal beats North Korea to advance to World Cup semifinals
LIVERPOOL, Jul. 23, 1966 (AMP) — England 66 : Portugal reached the semifinals of the 1966 FIFA World Cup with a 5-3 win against North Korea (halftime: 2-3) on Saturday afternoon at Goodison Park in Liverpool.
Eusébio served up another goal feast
North Korea had started off well by taking the lead thanks to goals by Seung-Zin ('1), Dong-Woon ('22) and Seung-Kook ('25), while Portugal only scored twice Eusébio ('27, '43 on penalty). Trailing 3-2 at half time, the Portugueses nonetheless manage to reverse the direction of the game by scoring three times in the second period (Eusébio '56, '59 on penalty and Augusto '80).
