Germany beats USSR to reach World Cup final
LIVERPOOL, Jul. 25, 1966 (AMP) — England 66 : Germany reached the FIFA World Cup final for the second time in their history with a 2-1 win against USSR (halftime: 1-0) on Monday night at Goodison Park in Liverpool.
Germany dominated the first half thanks to a goal scored by forward Helmut Haller in the 42nd minute. Leading 1-0 at the break, the Germans further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Beckenbauer in the 67th minute.
