Germany beats France in shoot out to reach World Cup final
SEVILLE, Jul. 8, 1982 (AMP) — Spain 82 : Germany reached the FIFA World Cup final for the fourth time in their history after defeating France 5-4 on penalties (after a 3-3 draw) on Thursday night at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium in Seville.
The score was still 3-3 at the end of the regulation game time and overtime, after goals from Pierre Littbarski ('17), Karl-Heinz Rummenigge ('102) and Klaus Fischer ('108) for Germany and Michel Platini ('26 on penalty), Marius Trésor ('92) and Alain Giresse ('98) for France. The Germans finally emerged the victors in the penalty shootout session by winning 5-4.
