World Cup 1982 : Poland beats France 3-2 to claim World Cup third place
ALICANTE, Jul. 10, 1982 (AMP) — Spain 82 : Poland secured the consolation of third place at the 1982 FIFA World Cup with a 3-2 win against France (halftime: 2-1) on Saturday night at the Estadio José Rico Pérez in Alicante.
France opened the score in the score in the 13th minute thanks to René Girard, before Poland regained the advantage with Szarmach ('40) and Majewski ('44). Leading 2-1 at the break, the Poles further widened their lead in the second period with a goal by Kupcewicz in the 46th minute.
