Ireland beats Romania in shoot out to reach World Cup quarterfinals
GENOA, Jun. 25, 1990 (AMP) — Italy 90 : Ireland qualified to the quarter-finals of the 1990 FIFA World Cup after defeating Romania 5-4 on penalties (after a 0-0 draw) on Monday afternoon at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa.
The score was still nil-all at the end of the regulation game time and overtime. The Irishs finally emerged the victors in the penalty shootout session by winning 5-4.
